Curbed NY recognized it; pedestrians noticing the rise of 51 Astor Place are realizing it: Astor Place is changing. With a new skyscraper and streetscape redesign to boot, the meeting point of five major streets will be transformed. More room for pedestrians, larger buildings, and greener public spaces are all coming to Astor Place.
The changes are new, but change is certainly not. Over the years, the meeting place has hosted department stores, theaters, universities, and academic centers like Cooper Union and the New York Film Academy.
